International Training Seminar (2003/03)

In 2003, we invited Professor Lawrence Susskind from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Susskind provided an intensive two-day seminar on consensus building and negotiation skills.
 

PI Case Study Workshop (2003/12)
Professor Lawrence Susskind (MIT) discussed with Fukuoka Prefecture on the prospects of using conflict assessment in planning Fukuoka Airport with public engagement.

The 1st International PI Case Study Working Group (2003/12)
Professor Jurgen van der Heijden (Univ. of Amsterdam) discussed the operation of XPIN, the Dutch interdepartmental expertise bureau for Innovative policy making.

Consensus Building Movie Streaming (intl. collaborative study)
We worked with the Consensus Building Institute in Cambridge, MA, USA, to collect informative materials on consensus building processes for the use of practitioners and scholars in Japan.

Afternoon Seminar "The development of consensus building professions" (2002/01)
Professor Lawrence Susskind (MIT) and Dr. David Laws (MIT) offered presentations on the historical development of professional mediators in the US, and its implications for Japan.

Working Group on the Pedagogy of Consensus Building Techniques for Civil Engineers

The Japan Society of Civil Enginners (JSCE) Shikoku Regional Division is exploring the best ways of teaching public participation and consensus building techniques to (prospective) civil engineers. PI-Forum is supporting the effort.

12 workshop meetings have been held to share the knowledge with cutting-edge researchers and practitioners in Japan.
